iphone unlocked vs. jailbroken and using over seas?

So I live in China, but iphones in the US are actually cheaper than here in China. So, I want to buy an iphone in the US and bring it here to China. However, I think it has to be unlocked or jailbroken. Is there a difference between these two things? To use in China does the phone have to be both, or can it just be “factory unlocked”? Does anyone know?

Im from Ireland and i dont ahve eneough to buy an iphone in the apple store so im buying it off ebay (dont worry im making sure its legit!) i just wanted to check if i buy an iphone from england and get it unlocked over here, or if its aready been unlocked in england will it work fine over here once i insert my sim??? thanks

I have recently bought an iPhone 4 off of eBay and am wondering if AT & T will allow my phone to be unlocked on April 8 when they said they would start unlocking iPhones.

can i restore my unlocked iphone?

i backed up my iphone on my itunes, and got a new iphone unlocked from orange to o2.
i want to restore my old iphone settings to the new iphone, but ive i know im cant update my new iphone because then the network will get back to orange.

basically my problem is when i go to restore my old iphone settings, i get this message
“the backup cannot be restored to this iphone because the software on the iphone is too old”

so does this mean there is no way of getting my beloved old iphone’s settings back?

iphone unlock ASSIST FAST ASAP!!!?

When is the unlock coming out for iphone 4 4.3.2 with baseband 04.10.01? I know there is gevery sim but, I am not to sure about it. Should I buy the phone and just use it for a little bit with gevey sim and then just unlock it the normal way once it comes out. ANY IDEAS FOR WHEN IT IS COMING OUT?
