Consensual cutting – assault in eyes of the law?

Consensual cutting – assault in eyes of the law?
If two guys cut each other up with pocket knives (shallow cuts on arms/ribs/etc), can police charge them with aggravated assault/assault with a deadly weapon even though it was consensual?
(this is for something I’m writing, not for real life; I’d like to know the laws regarding this/consensual cutting though)
