How to open a film canister?

I’m making a pinhole camera and I need an empty film roll to feed the negatives into. I have an old expired film roll that I want to use but somehow the film is all rolled up inside rather than haveing a tiny peice sticking out and I can’t seem to get it out. Is there any way of opening it?
I don’t care if it gets “exposed” because I’m going to throw it out anyway.
